2022 Leavenworth Regional: Wednesday, April 6

VP your way to the semifinals today!

Today's knockout teams were played Soloway-style, with a two-session qualifying Round-Robin set up (possibly a Swiss where you face most but not all of the teams in your bracket), and the top four make it to the semifinals tomorrow.

 CADDYING THIS WEEK:

Introducing our Caddies: Micah and Duke. We are delighted that for most of this week two young men who recently graduated from the Washington State Fire Academy will be caddying. They are currently doing their resident volunteer (on-the-job) training with Chelan County Fire District #1. On Wednesday the guys had a scheduling conflict so Teresa stepped in and caddied for the day; she is a non-playing bridge-wife aka a 'really good sport.'

WHERE'S ELISABETH?

Players returning from 2015 and 2018 have been asking, "Where's Elisabeth?" For each of the two prior tournaments, Karen's daughter took a week off of work to help out and caddy. Unfortunately, the scheduling change from October to April puts this tournament right into Elisabeth's busiest time of the year at her office and she can't get away now.

TIPPING THE CADDIES

Caddies are paid minimum wage and provide a necessary service to the game. As with other service workers, if they worked hard and made your event more enjoyable, please consider dropping some cash into the tip jar.

THANK YOU TO CRUNCH-PAK

CrunchPak is located about fifteen miles down the highway in Cashmere where they turn Wenatchee apples into packaged slices. Again this year, CrunchPak has generously donated their product for our enjoyment.

Attendance So Far

149.5 tables at the end of Wednesday. For full details, check out the new Table Counts page!

As we all transition from pandemic isolation to pre-pandemic normal at our own careful pace, bridge clubs and tournaments throughout the ACBL are struggling with returning to live play, so comparing this tournament's attendance to one before the pandemic is not really fair. In addition, the heavy rain that hit the coast on Sunday evening/Monday morning moved inland and created some snowy conditions for those arriving on opening day. Things will pick up as more people choose to carefully increase their social activities. Live tournament bridge had to begin somewhere and Leavenworth attendees are pioneers for the eventual return of tournament bridge's pre-pandemic popularity. Thanks for coming, and to those of you reading this from home and not quite ready to return to the tables yet, we understand and hope to see you soon!
